Information for Borrowers

square    Membership is available to individuals, for private use only. Individuals must be over the age of 16 to register. A form of official photographic ID, with your current Canberra address (e.g. your driver’s licence),  is necessary to register as a borrower.  There is no charge for membership.

square    We lend only to the person who has registered with us and will not knowingly lend to anyone else under your name unless you authorise us to do so (e.g. a parent may add a child’s name or add their partner’s name, etc.).

square    All  new releases are available for 2 Day Loan (i.e. an item is due back before the close of business 2 days after you borrowed it, regardless of the time of day you took it out = take out Friday due back on Sunday). However, a special weekend rate is available (i.e., take out Friday & return on Monday) for $1 more than the listed cover price. All our older titles are available for weekly hire (i.e. take out Friday, return it the following Friday).

square    Rental fees vary from $2 to $6 for weekly hire titles and all new releases are $7.70 for 2 days.

square    Extensions of loans can only be made by contacting us before an item is due back, and are charged on a pro-rata basis for new releases (i.e. half the cover rate per day extended =  $3.85 per day) and weekly hire items may only be extended at the discretion of the management.

square    Late fees are applied to all overdue items & must be paid in full before borrowing again.

square    Late fees are charged at the following rates: for all “New Releases” (very clearly marked with large new release stickers) are charged at $7 per day if late; all other items are charged at half their weekly fee per day late.

square    A replacement fee may be charged for any lost, damaged or unreturned items.

square    Faulty items: Please ensure that your DVD player and monitor are actually able to play the DVD region and format of any items borrowed before reporting something as being faulty.     Before reporting a videotape to us as being faulty, please ensure that you have first tried to adjust the tracking on your VCR. This simple operation deals with most problems (visual as well as sound) experienced during playback. If, after trying this, you are still experiencing difficulties, then please return the tape to us and we will check it. If a fault is found we will credit your account with the hire fee. It is also advisable to regularly clean the heads of your VCR (or have it done by a qualified technician).

square    Please assist us to maintain the quality of our library by treating all items with care whilst in your possession.  Most DVD problems are the result of mishandling, so please help us keep DVDs in good order. Keep videos & DVDs in the storage cases provided, away from dust, dirt and moisture, and protect them from extremes of hot and cold temperatures (e.g. don’t leave them sitting in a hot car, etc.). Only handle DVDs by their centre rims and edges to avoid surface marks and scratches on the playing surface, if it is necessary to clean a DVD please first ask us for advice on the appropriate method and only play discs/ tapes once they are at room temperature. Please rewind any videotapes before returning them to us.

Most titles are held on DVD however some older titles are only available on VHS and if so VHS appears in brackets at the end of the entry.

Please Note: Unless otherwise stated films are in the language of the country or region listed, but with English subtitles. However, when the work of an individual film director includes films made in other countries and/or languages they are usually all grouped together under his/her name in his/her country of origin, or noted with a cross reference.
